Sapphire Lore

Have you ever wondered how long people have doted over sapphires? Sapphire has been a popular gemstone for a longer amount of time than any of us actually need to know. All we really need to know is that sapphire is a gorgeous gemstone, and I’d say we’re already quite knowledgeable in that respect!

We most commonly know sapphires to exhibit a gorgeous deep blue coloring, but sapphire is actually available in a variety of bright colors (often assisted to brighter coloring through heat treatments). Sapphires come in pink, green, yellow, purple, blue, clear—as I said, a variety of colors. And beautiful colors, at that.

As legend states, sapphire is believed to offer healing properties for those suffering from colic, rheumatism and mental illnesses. It has also been used as an antidepressant and to provide spiritual enlightenment and inner peace to the wearer/beholder. Quite the impressive little stone, eh? Yes, I’d say so.

And Now for Something Completely Different

chicken-box.jpgOne of my favorite old British TV shows is Monty Python’s Flying Circus. I’m not really a fan of the “art work” in the show but so many of the skits they perform are classically hilarious. One series of skits had the theme “And Now for Something Completely Different” and when I saw this little chicken box I couldn’t help but think of that series.

This cheeky little box features four round cut black sapphires, two round cut blue/violet tanzanite gems and two round cut white topaz stones.

The auction reads, “This jewelry trinket box exclusively made in fashionable tradition; hand-crafted with incredible detail using genuine gemstones is a sympathy warming and unforgettable gift for any occasion or good for your home collection. Our Jewelry Box collection is saturated with shiny natural precious and semi-precious gemstones, accenting its brilliant gold and enamel plated base metal construction, perfect for stowing away your treasures.
