Ah, marriage. What a wonderful institution! And certainly full of traditions.
One such tradition is the engagement ring, marking the commitment a couple has made for marriage in the (hopefully near) future. Engagement rings are often a large part of the whole wedding and marriage process. When a woman announces that she is engaged, the first thing people want to do is see the ring! Then they want to hear all about the proposal…but that’s another story altogether.
Let’s face it: engagement rings can be very pricey. The traditional engagement ring is a diamond solitaire. If the ring were a simple band the price wouldn’t be such an issue, but once that rock is placed on top the cost can skyrocket!
Luckily for those engagement ring shoppers out there, Bidz.com carries a gorgeous always-changing variety of affordable engagement rings. We carry yellow gold, white gold and platinum rings. We carry traditional diamond solitaire styles as well as more ornate rings and rings with stones other than diamond. There is plenty to bid on, and with a new selection daily you’ll want to check back often.
Congrats on your upcoming nuptials, and good luck bidding!

Platinum has gained much popularity as a jewelry metal in the past 15 years—particularly for engagement rings. Platinum has a gorgeous shine and beautiful coloring, similar to that of white gold.
It is used for a variety of purposes, not only for jewelry. Platinum is sometimes used for archival printmaking in photography because it displays a greater range of tones than simple black and white printing methods. It is used in the Clark polargraphic electrode for measuring oxygen tension and as a catalyst in glow plugs in some model engines, among other things.
Platinum is very resistant to wear, tarnish and corrosion. It is a metal more precious and rare than gold, generally valued about twice as highly as gold. In fact, in the 18th century King Louis XV of France declared it the only metal fit for a king.
This platinum necklace by the Italian Jewelry masters at Bvlgari is certainly a charming and stunning piece. The necklace includes 225 round cut top quality white diamonds of VVS2-VS2 clarity in different sizes. The total carat weight of the necklace is 3.75 carats. It also features a box clasp for easy application.

“Tiffany’s new Blossom jewellery collection features a range of stunning platinum and diamond pieces, confirming the metal’s increasing popularity for use in top-end jewellery.
The range includes pendants, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and a ring which all include exquisite floral motifs of petals and blossoms cast in gleaming platinum, setting off the diamonds to dazzling effect.
“The contemporary designs of Tiffany, with its delicate, yet sophisticated beauty, are admired and desired by style-conscious people of every age and background,” she added.
Platinum jewellery’s increased popularity with A-list Hollywood celebrities was recently borne out by Jennifer Lopez sporting four long platinum and diamond chains for her performance in the Latin music edition of top-rating show American Idol.”

Eight of the leading platinum miners are preparing to launch an enormous mine in South Africa this year. The Bushveld platinum field will see a huge expansion in mines over the next several months.
Developers expect the expansion to increase the mine’s output to nearly 7 million ounces per year. The new mines could make platinum more readily available to the market.
