“A gold bangle adorned with more than 600 diamonds has been crowned as the top piece of jewellery at the Diamond Trading Company’s Shining Light Awards.

Diamonds specifically from South Africa were celebrated at the Tache Company and Vancut Diamond Works sponsored event which saw 880 entries flood into the competition.

It was a student, Joyce Coetzee from Tshwane University, who scooped the top award for her 18 carat design that was intermingled with 668 diamonds.

The inspiration of the piece was South Africa’s natural treasures, a theme that was stipulated to be the common thread running through all the pieces submitted for the award.

Well, we may not have a bracelet bearing 600 diamonds, but this slender circle of diamonds qualifies for it’s own award.

Letseng, the world’s highest jewelry mine, located in South Africa, recently produced a hefty find. It recently uncovered one 216-carat white diamond.

It was discovered on Jan. 26. The gem was sold in Antwepr on Feb. 28 fpr $8.3 million USD. The sale included two other white diamonds of 66-carats and 54-carats that sold for $1.2 million and $1.4 million respectively.
