Choosing Your Name

When you sign up for a Bidz.com account, one decision you’ll have to make is what you would like your username to be. Your username is the name other bidders will see as you make your bids. The username is essentially your Bidz.com identity.

For example, if you click on the “Register” button at the top of the website, the first box you’ll be asked to fill in is your username. The example the website gives is “winner777.” What you choose your username to be, however, is completely up to you!

It’s interesting to click through the auctions and check out some of the usernames other Bidz.com users have chosen.

Some are descriptive. For example, I came across one called “futurefamilyheirlooms.” From that name you can assume the bidder is looking to add items to his or her collection which will be cherished in the family for years to come.

Others may be a jumble of someone’s initials mixed with their lucky numbers. They may even be the user’s real name (e.g. johndoe).

Whatever you choose, have fun with it. Take a few minutes to come up with a name you’ll like to use as you make your bid on that gorgeous pair of diamond earrings or a piece of fine art.

Meeting the Reserve

Some auctions here on Bidz.com have what is called a reserve price. So what exactly is a reserve price?

The reserve price is the minimum sale price set by the seller. You can still get an amazing deal on a piece of fine jewelry or a gorgeous watch or accessory, or even some fine art, but the bidding has to at least reach the reserve price before a winner can be declared.

Most of our auctions don’t have reserves set, but you’ll notice this specification on the more expensive pieces. For instance, a reserve may be set on a $5,000.00 watch or a $12,000.00 necklace.

How do you know if a piece has a reserve set on the auction? When you click on the item to view the specifications, you’ll notice a status at the top where the bidding takes place. The words “Reserve Price Not Met” in orange text will sit next to the word “Status.”

Though the auctions don’t specify what the reserve price is, go ahead and bid. You never know if you’ll reach that reserve price and end up winning a gorgeous new piece to add to your collection.
