Protecting and keeping track of all your luxury jewelry pieces can be difficult even for the most naturally organized jewelry enthusiast. Jewelry is naturally small and lightweight in order to facilitate comfort and easy transport. In addition, the luxury materials from which they are crafted are susceptible to scratches and wear during everyday use.
Jewelry can also be difficult to adapt to your changing decor, outfit, or even your mood. Finding the right way to express yourself each and every day usually requires an extensive jewelry collection. The color, style, and shape of a jewelry piece must all be taken into account before it can be matched with a particular piece. In addition, different pieces and colored gemstones can reflect your unique personality.
Jewelry pieces such as this interchangeable cats eye ring can give you the versatility you need in a jewelry piece. It allows you to select from a number of multi-colored gemstones each time you adorn the ring. In addition, its sterling silver construction gives you the same durability and long-lasting luxury shine as any competing jewelry piece. It is sure to make a fine addition your jewelry collection that will adapt to your changing needs.

Though there are only four gems considered “precious stones” (emerald, diamond, ruby and sapphire) there is another category reserved for the rest of our favorite gems.
The “semiprecious gemstone” category is used to describe any gemstones which are valued for their beauty but don’t fall into the “precious stone” category. Included in this category are amethyst, garnet, opal, Peridot, rose quartz and many more.
Many semiprecious stones are quite expensive and quite valuable. I blogged yesterday about brazilianite, a gemstone which is very highly valued yet not considered a precious stone. Though brazilianite is quite rare and highly valued, it just doesn’t make it’s way into the precious category with the world’s fab four.
On Bidz.com, we feature gorgeous pieces of jewelry that include both precious and semiprecious stones. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say, and certainly many people prefer a particular semiprecious stone over one of the four precious stones any day. Take your pick and keep your eyes peeled for your favorite stone!

Did you know that there are only four types of stones characterized as “precious”? It’s true. Of all the gemstones mined, collected, sold, traded and valued in the world there are only four valued enough to be considered precious!
So which gems take the cake? Those four stones considered precious are emerald, diamond, ruby and sapphire. These four stones are highly valued worldwide for their hardness and rarity. Diamond wins for hardest mineral and though the gem itself is not entirely rare, the gorgeous clear white variety most preferred by jewelry lovers today is certainly difficult to come by.
There are a few stones out there considered by some to be precious, along with the fab four. These include both varieties of corundum and precious opal. In general, however, diamond, ruby, emerald and sapphire make up the precious stone category.

The necklace is a favorite piece of jewelry for many people, men and women alike. It is an accessory; it can be beautiful or an entirely operative piece in some particular purpose or activity. But where does the necklace originate from? How long have people loved this accessory?
Archaeologists believe the necklace was born during the Stone Age. In April of 2004, forty-one mollusks were discovered in a cave excavation in South Africa. These mollusks are believed to have been strung as neck jewelry about 75,000 years ago.
That’s 75,000 years of jewelry history there. Of course, jewelry today is much more sophisticated and beautiful than it was in its early days. Thousands of years ago at their birth, necklaces were made of shells, bones, animal teeth and claws strung on some thread.
Gold hit the picture in 2500 B.C. as evidenced by pieces found at the Royal Grave in Ur (today’s Iraq). Sumerians began creating beaded necklaces in 2000 B.C. utilizing stones, gemstones and copper/silver metal.

“Gorgeous Brazilian designer Simone Coste takes a unique approach with her designs. She uses stones mined in Brazil, quartz, onyx, chrysoprase, amethyst and others and instead of merely mounting the stones in gold she uses the stone as the sculptural concept for the ring, letting the sold serve as an inner support. The effect is striking, although perhaps a tad bulky on the finger. But in a world full of designs that look increasingly similar it’s refreshing to see someone step out in a new direction.”

In celebration of their centennial,Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels collaborated in creating “the Mystery, a writing instrument that will set you back a mere $730,000. Festooned with 840 diamonds and over 20 carats of gemstones, only nine are in existance, offering three variations of gemstones; rubies, sapphires or emeralds - all accented with diamonds, “set in a Van Cleef & Arpels patented “Mystery Setting”. This conceals gemstone settings and as a result an illusion is created which shows the emeralds, rubies and sapphires to be floating on its surface.”
