Jewelry designer Iosselliani invokes mystery with this intricately crafted reptilian-like necklace. One might imagine an enchantress from the legends of Merlin wearing this while invoking a spell.

“Composed of scaly, intertwined silver chains held together by four silver loops, the robust but finely detailed bracelet begs for closer inspection. Bejeweled serpent heads, glittering with semi-precious stones, hang from the sides, each one unique. Wrap it around your wrist and you’ll see that with all the dangling and coiling, this is a bracelet that doesn’t need any additional charms.”

From the jewelry designer, Sarah Hood:

“In the Spice Series neckpieces, I work with whole spices, including cardamom pods, fennel seeds, and saffron. I am constantly surprised and inspired by the completeness and innate elegance of these small natural forms and try to highlight them effortlessly with the clean lines of silver and glass. These pieces blur the lines between studio, kitchen, and laboratory”

The delicate artwork of jewelry designer and artist Ananda Khalsa is showcased in her jewelry. Every piece is a one of a kind creation featuring a very tiny original rendering, such as the rings pictured here.

“All my work contains an original painting, so slight variations will occur in each piece. This makes each piece one of a kind. All pieces are oxidized sterling and fine silver (unless specified otherwise), with a satin finish. All necklaces are finished with a handmade hook clasp, and are accented with tiny semiprecious stones at the closure. Every piece is stamped with my hallmark on the reverse.”

Have you ever admired the tart garnet red of sliced tomatoes over the emerald green of spinach and lettuce, dashed through with sassy citrine slices of carrot and the ruby red of radishes? Nature always serves up a banquet of jewels, and Sarah Hood is a Seattle based artist and jewelry designer who captures the zest and genius of nature in the form of jewelry.

“Over the last many years I have collected hundreds of organic forms that are interesting to me in some way, whether for their appealing shape, perfection of form, or striking color. I’m equally interested in whole and decomposing materials, and pieces that range in size from giant pine cones to the smallest spice seeds.
My organic jewelry comes from a desire to embrace the impermanence of the natural world around me. Rather than lamenting the transience of life, this jewelry celebrates it, transforming decay into beauty and lyricism, fragility into a strength of purpose.”

Some jewelry seems to become part of your body, an essential expression of who you are. Borrell’s necklace appears as if it is etched on to the skin.

“Currently on display as part of Brooklyn store/gallery Spring’s show “Around the Flat,” Melissa Borrell’s jewelry translates topographic maps into wearable forms. The RISD-trained designer asks “How can I change the way someone views the world?” redefining jewelry as well in the process. Though Borrell’s work seems to point to the differences between urban and rural landscapes, the New York-based jewelry designer also makes” expanding jewelry” and introduced a pop-out stainless steel pendant at this year’s ICFF.”

Detroit jewelry designer Milton Bennett’s work dovetails beautifully with today’s fashion emphasis of ethnic themed jewelry and the use of “natural” or raw materials.

“A jewelry maker for nearly 25 years, Bennett describes his work as “primitive,” after years of studying ancient forms of jewelry designs representing different cultures. His design inspirations are usually Egyptian, African, Middle Eastern, American Indian, Chinese or Japanese.
Bennett uses mostly sterling silver and embellishes his unique creations with semi-precious stones, such as Brazilian agate, carnelian and amethyst, in addition to other natural elements such as cowrie shells and bone. Most popular among the items he makes are rings, earrings and brooches.”

Jewelry designer Danielle Noyes calls this exquisite piece the “Queen Bee”. One would certainly feel like a queen wearing this handsome cuff crafted from imported python skin. Measuring about 3′, this brass bracelet is topped off with a bit of Swaovski for that final dash of sparkle.
And as you see, jewelry designers are again celebrating nature. And actually, if it were not for nature, we’d have no diamonds, rubies or gold. So it only fitting that the latest jewelry trend should pay tribute.
