That’s right. Recent jewelry news is that Nicole Richie, daughter of singer Lionel Richie, new mother of one and sometimes friend of Paris Hilton will be introducing her new jewelry line in Fall 2008.
Yes, it seems every star and starlette today has chosen the multiple-lines-of-income way of life. Having connections can make you a singer, a writer, an actor/actress and apparently even a designer of jewelry, clothing and whatever else you might fancy.
Richie’s plans include a jewelry line of 50 pieces (to begin with, of course). The line will consist of fashion jewelry, but certainly won’t be priced for the faint hearted! Richie’s pieces will be available at high-end boutiques like Kitson and Fred Segal, but keep your eyes on Bidz.com in the future for your chance to own a Richie original at a fraction of that boutique price!

Brilliant baubles adorned the models at Christian Diors Fall runway, bringing to mind visions of royal courts and men wearing white wigs escorting elaborately gowned ladies to the ball. The responsibility for such dynamic and vibrant creations can be assigned to Victoire de Castellane.

“De Castellane has been designing haute joaillerie for Christian Dior since their jewelry line was launched in 1998. And this fall, when Dior opens its fourth boutique at Place Vendome in the heart of Paris’s formidable jewelry district, she will be taken even further in to the fold.
Her bold, glamorous creations like the Roi Soleil — a flaming starfish necklace of 3000 yellow and orange sapphires - have reinvigorated the conservative world of fine jewelry making. She artfully reinterprets Dior’s romantic couture - its bows and ribbons, its houndstooth check and pastel hues - in the stone and metal vocabulary of haute jewelry. Yet at the same time, her creations have all the personality and whimsy of their maker. De Castellane bow-ties ribbons of diamonds and rubies into demure debutante necklaces; she turns emeralds, orange sapphires, diamonds and gold into a brooch of baby carrots; she conjures coral into a chunky ring of roses upon which has alighted a bumblebee.
“I like things that are exaggerated,” declares De Castellane. “Big, comic book-style jewelry, because jewelry’s only beautiful if you take notice of it.”

For those of a certain age, Rite Moreno is cherished for her Academy Award winning performance in West Side Story. hat was only the beginning.

“She was the second actor and first Hispanic to win the quadruple slam of Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony. Her film and television work would comprise ten pages. In addition to her awards performances, she’s appeared in such classics as “Singin’ in the Rain,” “The King and I” and “Carnal Knowledge.”

When I formed my jewelry line, I called it Nandiz.” Nandiz, a one-of-a kind line of fine jewelry in “kinetic harmony,” features rare colored stones, unique cuts and very unusual texture combinations of colored forms, like carved Burmese Jade, agate, aventurine.
Before starting to design jewelry five years ago, Fernanda attended California College of the Arts and majored in graphic design. Stumbling upon jewelry design at the Tucson Gem Show, she had an epiphany. This was her calling.” (click image to enlarge)

In 2003, Damiann Brown was inspired to create his jewelry line while he was yet a commodities trader. He took 22 months to research his concept of Glass Fusion pieces using semi-precious stones from Africa, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Peru and Siberia.
“I hand-select each stone based on cut, polish, color and striation. I then decide which sterling setting will best enhance the stone’s natural features. Sometimes I sort through 10,000 loose pieces and select 200 that are worthy of my designs … and other times, I have special cuts done and use every piece.”
Brown’s process includes “an arduous glass-fusion process. … The end product is a piece that is nearly impossible to break and that changes colors as the dichroic component bends and refracts light. Each piece exudes its own one-of-a-kind pattern and color shift … its own distinct personality, if you will. All of the glass fusion is done under my supervision here in the states.”
