The jewelry a bride wears on her special day is well-planned. A woman’s wedding day is often planned for six months to a year, sometimes longer. Everything is considered with great thought, from the bridal bouquet to the little place setting name tags.
Bridal jewelry should be beautiful, but not too extravagant as to overtake the gown. Let’s face it: the wedding gown always takes the cake as far as attention is concerned! Always popular in bridal jewelry is the pearl. Pearls worn at weddings are generally white, but the color variety in pearls allows for a bit of color to be mixed in with white on the wedding day. Freshwater or saltwater, pearls are absolutely classic and gorgeous.
Pearls have been loved for as long as jewelry has been worn. The ancient Greeks believed that pearls were the tears of the sea nymphs. In mythology, pearl necklaces became the symbol of a happy marriage—pearls were believed to make your eyes shine and to guard you from unhappy love, thus pearls have been associated with weddings ever since.
Check our collection of pearl jewelry as you plan your upcoming nuptials. Happy bidding!

Single string saltwater pearl necklaces remind me of Jackie O. The sleek fashion became an instant classic and will continue to be beautiful indefinitely.
Multi-string pearl necklaces, however, first remind me of the flapper era when chunky and multi-string necklaces were the height of fashion. I can just imagine this piece on a spunky girl with a bob haircut and flapper dress, schmoozing and dancing the night away at the hottest clubs.
This beautiful necklace is valued at $149.00 retail and features gorgeous strings of white freshwater pearls. The necklace is a total 100 inches in length and features pearls of 5-6mm in diameter. Bid on this piece today and show your fashionable side!

The pearl necklace was made popular by Jackie O. and has been somewhat of a staple in women’s jewelry collections for ages. Traditional pearl necklaces are made of white round saltwater pearls, but today the freshwater pearl is growing ever more popular.
Freshwater pearls are a bit like snowflakes—no two (uncultured) pearls are the same. They have character in their shapes and imperfections and come in a variety of beautiful colors. Freshwater pearls are also more affordable than the traditional saltwater pearl.
This necklace, valued at $119.00 retail, is made of freshwater pearls in a variety of coloring. The necklace features pink, white and grey shades and is a beautiful accessory for any time of year.
At 64 inches in length, you’ll find that this necklace can be worn in several ways to accent whatever you are wearing. Check it out and bid today to make this necklace yours.

Freshwater pearls are not named for their fresh look and feel, though they very well could be. Natural freshwater pearls occur in mussels and are developed the same way oysters develop saltwater pearls. When a foreign material enters the mussel and cannot be expelled, the mollusk coats it using nacre, the same secretion it uses to create its shell. The end product is a gorgeous, shiny pearl!
White, off white, peach colored and other light pearls offer a very refreshing look. Especially when paired with other fresh gems, such as citrine as used in this necklace. This 30 inch freshwater pearl and citrine necklace can be worn long or doubled up for a classy, Jackie-O look.
We often feature pearl necklaces and other pearl jewelry in our online jewelry auction. Keep your eyes peeled for the perfect pearl piece to add to your collection and good luck!

Detroit jewelry designer Milton Bennett’s work dovetails beautifully with today’s fashion emphasis of ethnic themed jewelry and the use of “natural” or raw materials.

“A jewelry maker for nearly 25 years, Bennett describes his work as “primitive,” after years of studying ancient forms of jewelry designs representing different cultures. His design inspirations are usually Egyptian, African, Middle Eastern, American Indian, Chinese or Japanese.
Bennett uses mostly sterling silver and embellishes his unique creations with semi-precious stones, such as Brazilian agate, carnelian and amethyst, in addition to other natural elements such as cowrie shells and bone. Most popular among the items he makes are rings, earrings and brooches.”

“Pearls, according to Indian mythology, were dewdrops from heaven that fell into the sea. They were caught by shellfish under the first rays of the rising sun, during a period of full moon. In India, warriors encrusted their swords with pearls to symbolize the tears and sorrow that a sword brings.”
Pearls are also the modern birthstone for the month of June. They have been called “diamonds of the sea”, and rightly so. It can take as long as 8 years for a pearl to be formed. They have always been associated with classic and dignified style and in days gone by, pearls were often the very first piece of jewelry a young girl traditionally received.
